China’s StarCharge, StarCharge Energy Pakistan and Bahum Global Partner to Expand EV Infrastructure in Pakistan
Islamabad: Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) sector received a significant boost as China’s StarCharge, StarCharge Energy Pakistan, and Bahum Global Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of EV charging infrastructure, technology transfer, and local manufacturing in Pakistan. The strategic partnership aims to accelerate the country’s transition toward sustainable transportation while strengthening its emerging electric mobility ecosystem.
The agreement, signed in Islamabad, focuses on expanding Pakistan’s EV charging network, promoting advanced charging technologies, facilitating technology transfer, and supporting the establishment of local manufacturing capabilities for EV-related products. The collaboration is expected to attract foreign investment, create employment opportunities, and enhance Pakistan’s industrial capacity in the clean mobility sector.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, said the government is committed to accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles by encouraging local manufacturing, attracting international investment, and creating a sustainable EV ecosystem. He emphasized that public-private partnerships and foreign collaboration are essential to achieving Pakistan’s long-term electric mobility objectives.
Haroon Akhtar Khan also highlighted the importance of the upcoming Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Policy, stating that it will play a pivotal role in supporting Pakistan’s EV industry by encouraging investment in battery technologies, energy storage solutions, and local manufacturing. He noted that strengthening battery infrastructure will be critical to ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of the country’s electric mobility sector.
The SAPM further stated that increasing the adoption of electric vehicles can significantly reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported petroleum products, helping lower the country’s fuel import bill while improving energy security and reducing carbon emissions. He added that the government is actively facilitating the nationwide rollout of EV charging stations to make electric mobility more practical, reliable, and accessible for consumers and businesses.
Industry experts believe the partnership between StarCharge, StarCharge Energy Pakistan, and Bahum Global represents another important milestone in Pakistan’s evolving EV landscape. They note that international technology partnerships, combined with supportive government policies and investment in charging infrastructure, will accelerate EV adoption, strengthen local manufacturing, and position Pakistan as an emerging market for electric mobility in South Asia.
