Sindh Cabinet Approval Sought for Logistics Park, 500 EV Buses

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to seek provincial cabinet approval for the establishment of a logistics park and the purchase of 500 electric buses, according to an official statement issued on Thursday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Board chaired by Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon.

The meeting reviewed the expansion of the province’s mass transit system, promotion of modern and environment-friendly public transport, establishment of a logistics park, purchase of electric buses and other transport-related matters.

SMTA Board members, Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, SMTA Managing Director Behzad Memon, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah and other senior officials attended the meeting.

The board decided to complete the required technical and administrative procedures for the logistics park and procurement of 500 EV buses and then seek approval from the Sindh Cabinet.

Speaking at the meeting, Sharjeel Memon said the establishment of a logistics park would be a revolutionary step for Karachi, helping reduce the pressure of heavy traffic on the city’s roads.

He added that the project would also contribute to the development of the transport and logistics sector in Sindh along modern lines.

The minister directed the relevant authorities to complete all technical and administrative formalities at the earliest to ensure timely implementation of the projects.

He said further expansion of the modern public transport system remained one of the Sindh government’s priorities.
