Pakistan Targets More Than 10,000 EV Charging Stations by 2030 to Accelerate Electric Mobility
Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan has set an ambitious target to establish more than 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2030 as part of its strategy to accelerate the country’s transition towards sustainable transportation and clean energy. The initiative aims to expand the national EV charging infrastructure, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, lower carbon emissions, and promote environmentally friendly mobility across the country.
Under the government’s EV policy, significant emphasis is being placed on developing charging infrastructure, encouraging local manufacturing, and attracting private sector investment. Several local and international companies have already expressed interest in investing in Pakistan’s rapidly growing EV sector, while efforts are underway to promote domestic production and assembly of electric vehicles and related technologies.
The new EV policy also focuses on increasing the adoption of electric cars, motorcycles, and three-wheelers through financial incentives and supportive regulations. As part of this initiative, the government has allocated substantial subsidies to encourage the purchase of electric motorcycles and has introduced a merit-based program to provide electric bikes to students, promoting affordable and sustainable transportation.
Industry experts believe that private sector participation will play a crucial role in achieving the country’s electric mobility goals. Investments in EV charging networks, battery technology, vehicle assembly, and supporting industries are expected to create new employment opportunities, strengthen Pakistan’s automotive industry, and accelerate technology transfer.
Energy experts further note that the successful expansion of charging infrastructure will significantly boost EV adoption over the coming years. Increased use of electric vehicles is expected to reduce fuel import bills, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and provide consumers with more economical and sustainable transportation options.
The government’s EV policy, combined with growing private investment and nationwide expansion of charging infrastructure, is being viewed as a major step toward transforming Pakistan’s transport sector and positioning the country for a cleaner and more sustainable mobility future.
