Pakistan Receives First Shipment of Over 2,000 Electric Vehicles via Roll-on/Roll-off Vessel
Karachi: Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) sector achieved a significant milestone as more than 2,000 electric vehiclesarrived at Karachi Port aboard a modern Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel for the first time. Industry experts believe the introduction of this advanced shipping method will enhance the efficiency, safety, and speed of vehicle imports while supporting the country’s growing electric mobility market.
The shipment was handled at Karachi Port’s modern terminal, where the vehicles were driven directly off the vessel instead of being unloaded using conventional cranes. This internationally recognized Ro-Ro system minimizes handling time, reduces the risk of damage, lowers logistics costs, and significantly improves port operations.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry described the arrival as a major milestone for Pakistan’s maritime and logistics sectors. He stated that adopting modern shipping technologies would increase the operational capacity of the country’s ports and strengthen Pakistan’s position as a regional logistics and trade hub.
